Senior Software Engineer

Nearer helps everyday online purchases support local communities. We work at the checkout, close to where value is created, and keep the impact local, visible, and fair.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can build, ship, and own the core platform end to end. This role suits someone who likes autonomy, clear direction, and real responsibility from day one.

What you’ll do

• Build the first production version of Nearer from the ground up
• Design and deliver a Shopify app that works cleanly in real merchant checkouts
• Own Stripe-based payment flows, including round-ups, fund holding, and distribution
• Make pragmatic technical decisions that get the product live and usable
• Set up patterns and standards that a small offshore team can follow later
• Work independently, with clear product direction from the founder

• You’ve shipped real products that people use
• You’re comfortable owning a system end to end, not just a slice of it
• You can make trade-offs and move forward without waiting for perfect inputs
• You’re clear in how you communicate, especially across time zones

Experience we’re looking for

• Strong experience building production systems, ideally full stack
• Hands-on experience with S
• Solid understanding of payments, edge cases, and failure states
• Experience working with or leading offshore development teams is a plus
• Startup or early-stage product experience is helpful, but not required
